The Church on the Green began in the early 20th Century as a Brethren Chapel, but in more recent years it has sought to broaden its appeal to a wider evangelical community. Along with many other gatherings, the church struggled during the pandemic, and took the decision to ask Scott Drive Church, Exmouth, if they would be interested in taking over the premises. This was agreed and was completed on 1st January 2022. Scott Drive Church is affiliated to the FIEC, and is about 10 minutes’ drive away.

The goal of Scott Drive Church has always been to see the Church on the Green re-established as an independent, gospel-centred congregation in Budleigh Salterton. To that end, at a church meeting at Scott Drive in April 2026, it was decided that the Church on the Green should become an official church plant, with a view to it attaining independence within about a couple of years. 

The first step towards this will be taken on 6th September, when morning services will begin at the Church on the Green (10.30am). Our first sermon series will be on "Christ, the Head of the Church". We will continue to hold evening services jointly with the congregation at Scott Drive, our 'mother' church, on alternate Sundays at 6.30pm. These will be held at the Exmouth premises.
