Our next sermon series: Acts 13-20 (The Gospel comes to Europe)

In no continent of the world has Christianity made such an impact as it has in Europe over the last 2,000 years: European history, government, culture, ethics, thought, art, science and literature have all been thoroughly permeated by the Christian faith; and only in the last 100 years (and especially in the last 50-60) has this influence begun to wane – ironically at the same time as that same Christian faith is growing rapidly in all other continents! We are the inheritors of the Christian tradition in Europe – more than that, if we are ourselves genuine believers, we are the torch-bearers to the people of Europe around us, many of whom are now slipping back into those same pagan practices & morality that those early European Christians discarded when they first heard the gospel preached by Paul & others.

From Sunday 16th June, we will be looking at the story of how Christianity first came to Europe, as we read of it in the Book of Acts, from about ch. 13; how the Holy Spirit directed the early church towards mission to ‘the ends of the earth’ (Acts 1:8), and how that involved crossing all sorts of geographical as well as cultural boundaries. Join us Sunday by Sunday as we journey with Paul & his companions, and as the Holy Spirit leads them on a roller-coaster ride to take the gospel on a years-long mission, visiting strange new places, seeking to bring new life & revitalisation, boldly going where no Christian missionary had been before!

From 16th June, we will be starting a new series in the Book of Acts (from chapter 13), entitled 'The Gospel comes to Europe'.

Are we being deceived? Is Deception the hallmark of our times? A couple of months ago, the Dyson Report laid bare the deception used by Martin Bashir to obtain the interview with Diana – but actually this is symptomatic of the whole realm of public and political life, where lies and deceit are commonplace.

Death - the final frontier

Death - the final frontier

Death - the final frontier Many of you will remember the opening phrase of each episode of the original Star Trek series: Space – the final frontier… It’s an attractive idea – it plays to our sense that the human race will continue to blaze a trail somewhere in the Universe; that, should the earth give way, humanity can always find some sort of hope for itself by colonising space – an idea that Stephen Hawking also promoted.
